Biography
Hon. Harvey A. Silberman (Ret.) brings a wealth of experience and deep commitment to family law as he joins Signature Resolution’s panel of neutrals. With a career spanning over two decades on the bench, he has the comprehensive understanding and insight necessary for effective mediation and dispute resolution.
Judge Silberman’s approach to mediation is characterized by his ability to understand the profound impact that family disputes can have on all parties involved, especially when children are at the center. Drawing from his extensive experience on the bench, he honors all parties’ emotional and financial needs, allowing him to navigate complex family dynamics with compassion and clarity.
Judge Silberman’s career began with significant roles in both public interest and private practice. He was the first staff attorney at AIDS Project Los Angeles during the height of the AIDS epidemic, demonstrating his dedication to social justice. Judge Silberman then joined a large family law firm in the San Gabriel Valley, where he refined his expertise in complex family law matters. Returning to public interest work six years later, he became the supervising attorney for the family law/domestic violence unit at Neighborhood Legal Services in Los Angeles.
Judge Silberman was appointed to the bench in 2004 and dedicated his judicial career exclusively to the family law division. He has been recognized with Judge of the Year honors from various bar associations, the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and most recently, by the Inn of Court. His leadership extends to his roles on the Los Angeles Superior Court executive committee and as a board member for the California section of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts and the San Fernando Valley Legal Foundation.
Judge Silberman has served in Department L in Pasadena for the past 12 years, following an eight-year tenure at Stanley Mosk. His extensive experience and commitment to family law make him a valuable addition to Signature Resolution, where he continues to guide parties toward equitable and lasting resolutions with insight and respect.
Judge Silberman completed his undergraduate degree at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, then earned his Juris Doctorate and Master of Arts from the University of Southern California, where he was awarded the Shattuck Award for outstanding potential in the legal field. He returned to USC Law School from 1998 to 2004 to teach family law and continues to manage a Student Extern Program for the next generation of legal professionals.
